Closures at Two North Central Washington Wildlife Areas

Closures at Two North Central Washington Wildlife Areas
0Comments

Closures at two north central Washington wildlife areas could impact people recreating in the area. One mile of Zachman Road on the Sinlahekin Wildlife Area is temporarily closed. This section, now gated at Stalder Road, was damaged during the 2015 Okanogan Complex Fire. This closure is to minimize additional damage to the roadway. The section will be closed until the end of September and is marked with signs. This is not expected to have a major impact to the public as this section of road is minimally used.

At the Methow Wildlife Area, three campgrounds are temporarily closed- Boulder Creek and Upper and Lower Bobcat campgrounds, all adjacent to the East and West Chewuch roads. These closures are to address public safety concerns following the 2021 Cub Creek 2 Fire. These campgrounds lie within drainages for seasonal creeks. With spring water flows, there are concerns that fire debris could wash downstream in large volumes, causing unsafe conditions for campers.

It is not clear at this time how long the campgrounds may be closed. Roads to the campground are blocked and signs are posted to alert members of the public. These campgrounds are very popular and we understand this closure will impact users during the peak camping season.
