Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie announced the appointment of Byron Brown as the new Chief Counsel for the Subcommittee on Environment. This announcement comes from the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where Guthrie serves as Chairman.

Byron Brown’s most recent position was Assistant General Counsel at the American Chemistry Council. He brings a wealth of experience from Capitol Hill and various roles within the Executive Branch. His previous roles include serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Senior Counsel for the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works under Chairman Jim Inhofe. During his tenure, he focused on issues related to contaminated sites, waste management, recycling, and mining. He was notably involved in drafting coal ash provisions included in the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act.

Brown has also worked as Senior Counsel and Director of Oversight for the House Committee on Natural Resources under Chairman Doc Hastings. Additionally, he practiced law privately in Washington D.C., and served as a career attorney at EPA.

Brown holds a law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law. He also earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Iowa and a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire.
