Shop with a Cop will take on a new name this year.
Last year, Shop with a Cop had to be adapted due to Covid-19 restrictions. After last year’s modified event, we’ve decided to continue with some of those changes and felt it appropriate to give the program a new name, Christmas with a Cop.
Christmas with a Cop differs from Shop with a Cop in that we shop for the kids in advance based on information we gather from their parents about their child’s particular hobbies and interests. Usually, the kids spend part of the event shopping with a member of Law Enforcement. Doing away with the shopping trip allows the kids and Law Enforcement to enjoy their time together having holiday fun.
Christmas with a Cop is spreading Christmas cheer to 21 community children (a total of 14 families) this year. We have a lot of fun activities planned for the kids and Law Enforcement volunteers, including pictures with the Grinch, lunch hosted by the American Legion, storytime, a gingerbread house-building competition, interactive games, holiday crafts, and something special for the kids to take home to their families.
Donations for Christmas with a Cop will go towards Christmas gifts, winter clothing needs, and event expenses, just as it did when the program was under Shop with a Cop.
