More than 50% of voters showed up to cast their vote for the primary election earlier this month, surpassing the presidential primary earlier this year and the primary in August 2016, according to Patch.
Roughly 54% of the 4.6 million registered voters participated this time around while 49.56% showed up in March and 34.88% in the August 2016 primary.
Even the lowest turnout so far, 44.1% in Yakima County, is still a higher participation level than the norm. At the same time, Ferry County has the highest turnout in the state with 69%. Jefferson comes in second with 67.3% and Garfield is less than a percentage point behind with 66.7%, Patch reported. Lincoln rounds out the top 5 counties with voter participation at 64.4%.
Those numbers could change as about 473,950 ballots were still being processed. The final day for certification is Aug. 21.
