Spokane, Wash. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05)  hosted her annual Service Academy Reception last week to celebrate the appointment of 6 high school students she nominated to attend one of the nation’s prestigious service academies.

“One of the best parts of my job is having the opportunity to nominate a select few of the best and brightest young people to represent Eastern Washington at our nation’s military academies,” said Rodgers. “This year, six of these incredible nominees received appointments, charting them on a course to be the future leaders of our Armed Forces. I am so proud of each one of them for achieving this goal, and I continue to be inspired by their decision to put service before self. Congratulations, and may God bless them as they begin this next chapter!”

Each year, Cathy nominates students from Eastern Washington interested in receiving an appointment to one of America’s service academies. Nominations are made on a competitive basis, using criteria determined by the academies to be indicative of one’s potential for success in the military.

The following students met the extensive qualifications required for a nomination from Cathy and received an appointment to one or more of the military academies:

Misa McKenna, Mead High School

United States Military Academy

Griffin Satterfield, Gonzaga Preparatory School

United States Naval Academy

Madison Bradley, Mt. Spokane High School

United States Air Force Academy

Janee Ko, Lewis and Clark High School

United States Air Force Academy

Jacob Courtney, College Place High School

United States Air Force Academy
