Washington, D.C. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) today announced the approval of a nearly $23 million grant from the Department of Transportation to Spokane Regional Airport. This funding will be used to construct an overpass interchange over Airport Drive and relocate Spotted Road outside the Runway Protection Zone at the airport.

“This grant was years in the making and will have a tremendous impact on Eastern Washington communities,” said Rodgers. “This funding will help Spokane International Airport improve safety for travelers and employees – on the road and in the air – while also driving the kind of economic opportunities that make our city a place people want to visit. I applaud the airport, city leaders, and everyone involved for their persistence and hard work in securing this grant funding.”

Cathy has been a strong advocate for this project through the years and has sent numerous letters of support to the Department of Transportation (DOT). This $22,800,000 in funding is made possible by the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program.

NOTE: RAISE grants were originally created under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grants to help support projects with exceptional benefits, explore ways to deliver projects faster and save on construction costs, and make needed investments in the country’s infrastructure.
