House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) has responded to the Department of Energy’s final rule to regulate distribution transformers. In a statement, Rodgers expressed cautious optimism about the revised standards, stating, “While I am still reviewing the finalized rule, it is encouraging to see that the Department, in response to pressure from Energy and Commerce Republicans, has scaled back their initial proposal to make it more practical."
Rodgers acknowledged the positive changes made in the revised standards, such as extending the compliance timeline and moderating some of the manufacturing requirements. However, she emphasized that more efforts are needed to address ongoing transformer supply chain issues and to prevent any additional costs for the American people. She highlighted the importance of a reliable and affordable electric grid for the functioning of essential services like hospitals and businesses.
House Republicans, including Rodgers, are committed to ensuring that the electric grid remains secure and accessible. Rodgers concluded by stating, "Our electric grid is crucial to keeping the lights on, heating our homes, and powering our hospitals and businesses, and House Republicans will continue our work to ensure that it is reliable, affordable, and secure."
