House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee Chair Jeff Duncan (R-SC) have announced a hearing titled “Green Building Policies: Jeopardizing the American Dream of Homeownership.” The announcement was made in Washington, D.C. on May 16, 2024.

The Chairs stated that the current administration's green building mandates and fossil fuel bans are exacerbating the struggles of Americans dealing with persistent inflation. They claimed these policies are hindering people from achieving homeownership, which they consider an integral part of the American dream.

They further criticized the administration for its aggressive home construction codes, bans on natural gas usage for home heating and cooking, and taxpayer-funded green projects for federal buildings. According to them, these policies are driving up costs and making life unaffordable for Americans.

The hearing is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Rayburn House Office Building. It will be open to the public and press, with live streaming available online. The notice was issued at the direction of the Chair.

For further inquiries about the hearing or press-related questions, Kaitlyn Peterson at Kaitlyn.Peterson@mail.house.gov and Sean Kelly at Sean.Kelly@mail.house.gov can be contacted respectively.
