REPUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT #309: Reopening Update - Aug. 21

School6

Republic School District #309 issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.

Republic School District #309 is pleased to announce our reopening plans for the 2020/2021 school year.  The health and safety of our students, staff and community are our top priority.  We understand that every family has different circumstances under which you are deciding how best to approach this upcoming school year.  Therefore, we have two schooling options that we are able to provide in order for you to make the best decision for your family – an in-person option and a fully online option.

We will be offering the option of in-person student learning, following a similar schedule as last year.  School will begin in-person on Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 and will continue Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-2:50pm and Fridays, 8:00am to 1:20pm.  School buses will be running as usual.  Please visit the school website for the bus schedule.

The school is taking certain precautions, following OSPI’s guidance, to maximize the safety of students, staff and visitors by implementing the following procedures:

  • masks required on buses and in school buildings
  • health checks required upon entering school buildings, which will include a questionnaire and a temperature scan
  • social distancing in the classrooms with student desks being placed six feet apart
  • social distancing in the hallways
  • social distancing on the buses to the extent possible
  • hand sanitizer on the buses, in hallways and in the classrooms
  • routine, twice daily sanitization of high-touch surfaces, including desks, doorknobs, buses, etc.
Any student exhibiting a fever of 100.4 or above will be isolated and parents/guardians will be contacted to take their child home.

We are also offering a free online learning option.  Republic #309's online learning is fully accredited and has been in place for over five years.  Once registered, we will evaluate your child’s academic standing and develop an individualized student learning plan (SLP) tailored to your individual needs. This plan will meet the state standards and follow all of the course requirements for high school graduation.  The online option uses curriculum provided by Edgenuity.  For students in Kindergarten through 5th grades, this curriculum offers high-quality lessons in math, English/language arts, science, and social studies built around a gradual-release instructional model of direct instruction, supported practice, independent practice, and assessment to help reinforce grade-level skills.  Each student enrolled will be loaned a Chromebook to use for instruction and will also have access to a teacher on-site if needed.  For grades 6 through 12, the program includes multimedia course content designed by subject matter experts, discussion forums and call-to-action assignments that encourage students to apply learning.  Students in these grades will also have a Chromebook checked out to them for their educational use, and in addition, they will have the ability for on-demand tutoring by subject matter experts, seven days a week.
