House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Energy, Climate, & Grid Security Subcommittee Chair Jeff Duncan have announced a subcommittee markup of legislation aimed at modernizing America's pipeline infrastructure and protecting consumer choice in home appliances.
In a joint statement, Chairs Rodgers and Duncan expressed their commitment to improving livelihoods, freedoms, and access to affordable, reliable energy through the proposed bills. They highlighted the importance of strengthening the nation's pipeline safety laws, modernizing the pipeline permitting process, and ensuring Americans have the freedom to choose home appliances that suit their needs and preferences.
The subcommittee markup, scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET in the 2123 Rayburn House Office Building, will consider six bills:
- H.R. ___, the Pipeline Safety, Modernization, and Expansion Act of 2023
- H.R. __, To prohibit the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for clothes washers
- H.R. __, To prohibit the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for clothes dryers
- H.R. __, To prohibit the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for dishwashers
- H.R. __, To prohibit the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers
- H.R. __, To prohibit the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for room air conditioners
