Today, a hearing titled "The World Wild Web: Examining Harms Online" was led by Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade. The focus of the discussion was on the risks and threats present in the digital world, particularly those affecting children.

Chairman Bilirakis emphasized the need to protect vulnerable individuals from online exploitation. He stated, "Our increasingly digital world continually presents new threats and challenges, especially to our children. I remain focused on addressing the clear risks facing the most vulnerable and want to ensure they are not being exploited by bad actors online." He expressed hope for bipartisan support to develop legislation aimed at safeguarding Americans from online dangers.

Congressman Rus Fulcher (ID-01) expressed some confusion during the hearing but clarified his intent to discuss children's online safety. Chairman Bilirakis confirmed that this was indeed the correct subject matter.

Congresswoman Kat Cammack (FL-03) stressed the importance of focusing on internet-related threats during this timely hearing. She apologized to attendees for any political distractions and reaffirmed her commitment to addressing issues related to children's safety online.

Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) criticized some members for deviating from the main topic of children's safety online. He noted frustration over discussions unrelated to the hearing's purpose and called for attention on advancing sensible policy regarding children's safety.

The hearing highlighted ongoing concerns about digital threats and sought consensus on protective measures for children in an increasingly connected world.
