House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee Chair Buddy Carter have announced a markup of the Air Quality Standards Implementation Act of 2024. The subcommittee markup aims to discuss an alternative approach to the Biden administration's actions regarding air quality standards.

According to Chairs Rodgers and Carter, "America has long been the world’s economic powerhouse while also maintaining some of the lowest air pollution levels in the world. Recent efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including a standard on fine particulate matter—or PM 2.5—threaten this legacy and will devastate American manufacturing and people’s livelihoods." They expressed their commitment to protecting public health and ensuring American communities can thrive economically.

The Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials will conduct the markup to address the EPA's policies on NAAQS and propose ways to reform them. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 2:30 PM ET in the 2123 Rayburn House Office Building.

The legislation to be discussed during the markup is H.R. ___, the Air Quality Standards Implementation Act of 2024. The hearing will be open to the public and press, with live streaming available on the committee's website.
