The House of Representatives has unanimously passed three bills aimed at improving broadband access across the United States. These bills, originating from the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, have received backing from both sides of the political spectrum.
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) expressed her satisfaction with the progress made. "Bureaucracy and red tape have stopped too many Americans from accessing high-speed broadband. I am proud of the work done by Members on the Energy and Commerce Committee to advance bipartisan priorities to speed up broadband deployment and close America’s digital divide," she stated. She also thanked committee members for their dedication to fostering innovation and supporting American technological leadership.
The first bill, H.R. 3343, known as the Federal Broadband Deployment Tracking Act, was sponsored by Representatives August Pfluger and Darren Soto. The second, H.R. 1377 or the Promoting U.S. Wireless Leadership Act, was put forward by Representatives Tim Walberg, Debbie Dingell, and Ann Kuster. Lastly, H.R. 3293 is titled the Expediting Federal Broadband Deployment Reviews Act and was introduced by Representatives Jeff Duncan and Angie Craig.
Each bill successfully passed through the committee without opposition.
