Today, Congressman Richard Hudson, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, addressed a hearing titled "Strengthening American Leadership in Wireless Technology." In his opening remarks, Hudson emphasized the importance of advancing technology and maintaining U.S. leadership in innovation.
Hudson expressed his commitment to working with Representative Matsui and other colleagues to address pressing issues in communications and technology. He highlighted America's role as an economic powerhouse leading in next-generation wireless technology and other emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and precision agriculture.
Hudson stressed the need for additional spectrum resources to keep pace with technological advancements. "Spectrum is a crucial element for wireless technology to operate," he stated, emphasizing its impact on various sectors including national defense.
The congressman also noted the finite nature of spectrum resources, advocating for a balanced approach between licensed and unlicensed spectrum availability. He called for reauthorizing the FCC's spectrum auction authority to support economic growth through these auctions.
Addressing network security concerns, Hudson pointed out threats from adversaries attempting to undermine U.S. leadership through cyberattacks and IP theft. He mentioned "Salt Typhoon," a significant Chinese-backed telecommunications hack, underscoring the need for trusted alternatives to Chinese equipment.
Hudson concluded by emphasizing collaboration with stakeholders to secure networks and develop comprehensive spectrum policy in response to international challenges.
