In a recent opinion piece published in the Washington Examiner, Representatives Morgan Griffith (VA-09) and Bob Latta (OH-05), along with House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (MI-09), advocated for the passage of H.R. 27, known as the HALT Fentanyl Act. The proposed legislation aims to equip law enforcement with necessary tools to combat fentanyl-related substances entering the United States.

The representatives highlighted the ongoing fentanyl crisis in America, describing it as "an unnecessary story of anguish and despair." They shared the tragic story of Zach Cullen, a 23-year-old college student who died from fentanyl-related poisoning shortly after his birthday. Cullen had been working towards establishing a technology company while delivering pizzas to support himself through college.

Following Cullen's death, his parents testified at a House Energy and Commerce Committee roundtable, calling for action to prevent similar tragedies. In response, House Republicans have committed to addressing this issue through legislative measures such as the HALT Fentanyl Act.

The full opinion piece and additional information about the HALT Fentanyl Act are available online.
