Congressman Brett Guthrie of Kentucky and Congressman Gus Bilirakis of Florida have announced a forthcoming hearing on the impact of name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights in college athletics. The hearing is titled "Moving the Goalposts: How NIL is Reshaping College Athletics" and aims to address the evolving landscape surrounding NIL issues.

Guthrie, who serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, along with Bilirakis, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, emphasized the challenges brought about by NIL developments. "Student-athletes have the right to benefit from the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL), but the rapid evolution of NIL has created a chaotic and unpredictable system," they stated. They further noted that while universities should uphold their educational missions, there is a pressing need for clear regulations to support athletes and institutions alike.

The hearing will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:15 AM ET in Room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. It will be open to both public attendees and media representatives. Additionally, a live stream will be available online through energycommerce.house.gov.

For further information regarding the hearing or press inquiries, individuals are encouraged to contact Alex Khlopin or Daniel Kelly via their respective email addresses provided in the announcement.
