Congressman Brett Guthrie, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, alongside Congressman Bob Latta, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy, announced a hearing to discuss regional grid reliability. The event is titled "Keeping the Lights On: Examining the State of Regional Grid Reliability."
In their joint statement, Guthrie and Latta emphasized the importance of maintaining a reliable electric grid for various sectors in the United States. They highlighted concerns about premature retirements of electric-generating facilities and stressed the need to find solutions for expanding baseload power amidst increasing demands from new technologies.
"The continued safety and reliability of our electric grid is essential to supporting small businesses, manufacturing processes, the agriculture industry, hospitals, and homes across the United States," they stated. The hearing aims to provide insights from regional grid operators on addressing growing power demand and securing reliable electricity.
The hearing will take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 10:15 AM ET in Room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. It will be open to both public attendance and media coverage and can also be viewed via livestream at energycommerce.house.gov.
