Congressman Brett Guthrie, representing Kentucky's 2nd district and serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, has expressed his support following the U.S. Senate's confirmation of Dr. Marty Makary as Commissioner of Food and Drugs at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
In a statement released after the confirmation, Congressman Guthrie highlighted the critical role played by the FDA in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical products. "Americans—and, in many cases, the world—depend on the FDA’s gold standard of determining the safety and effectiveness of medicines and medical products for patients," said Chairman Guthrie.
He also expressed confidence in Dr. Makary's ability to lead the agency effectively due to his extensive medical and research background. "I’m confident that Dr. Makary’s medical and research experience, coupled with his thoughtfulness, will help strengthen the FDA," Guthrie stated. He concluded by congratulating Dr. Makary on his new role and expressing eagerness to collaborate in efforts to better serve American citizens.
