Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, expressed appreciation for President Trump's recent executive order supporting coal in American energy production. Guthrie emphasized the significance of coal as a staple in achieving energy dominance, along with its reliability and affordability for communities.

"Today’s executive order is an important step toward ensuring American energy dominance. As a baseload power source, coal provides reliable and affordable power for our communities, and it can help to power our AI future, too," Guthrie stated. He further noted that the coal industry is a significant contributor to the economy by creating jobs and generating revenue while operating more cleanly and safely than before. Guthrie commended President Trump's efforts to cut regulatory constraints and enhance access to coal resources.

Through the executive order, President Trump instructions the National Energy Dominance Council to classify coal as a "mineral," granting it benefits under Executive Order 14241 aimed at boosting mineral production in the U.S. Additionally, the order calls for the identification and prioritization of coal resources on federal lands, along with the removal of barriers to coal mining and leasing these lands.
