This November, Referendum 90 will be on Washington state's ballot, which concerns the future of sex education in Washington school.

"In the spring, the state legislature passed and Gov. Jay Inslee signed Senate Bill 5395 concerning comprehensive sexual health education. The bill would require school districts to adopt or develop, consistent with state standards, comprehensive, age-appropriate sexual health education for all students. Parents can request that their child be excused from the instruction," KING 5 reported.

But enough signatures in June caused the issue to be decided by voters on the general election ballot instead.

KING 5 polled approximately 600 voters, of which, 52% said they would vote in favor of Referendum 90, 34% said they would vote against and 14% said they didn't know yet.

"I really am so passionate and supportive of Referendum 90 because I want my girls to get the information and the education that I didn't get," Liezl Rebugio, co-manager of the Approve Referendum 90 campaign, told KING 5.

But Lander Groff, a mother of three kids in Snohomish, doesn't like Referendum 90. She thinks it would cause schools to overstep in their duty.

"I have found it vital to sit down with my kids and to have those personal conversations when they're ready," Groff told KING 5. "It desensitizes these kids to a point where I just feel like it's over-sexualizing them."

Rebugio said criticism like Groff's is "simply not true," according to KING 5.
