House Energy and Commerce Committee to Hold Legislative Hearing on Data Privacy Proposals

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr. have announced a legislative hearing focusing on data privacy proposals. The hearing, titled "Legislative Solutions to Protect Kids Online and Ensure Americans’ Data Privacy Rights," aims to address the need for comprehensive data privacy and security standards.

"It is time for Congress to come together on comprehensive data privacy and security standards that put Americans back in control of their information online," Chair Rodgers and Ranking Member Pallone stated. They expressed gratitude to their colleagues for their hard work and input, emphasizing the importance of bipartisan cooperation in protecting online privacy.

The upcoming Subcommittee on Innovation Data, and Commerce hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET in the 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The session will focus on legislative solutions to safeguard children online and ensure data privacy rights for all Americans. Witnesses for the hearing will be announced and are by invitation only.

Several legislative proposals will be considered during the hearing, including the American Privacy Rights Act, the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Algorithmic Accountability Act of 2023, the DELETE Act, the TLDR Act, the Banning Surveillance Advertising Act of 2023, Sammy’s Law of 2023, the Protecting Kids on Social Media Act, and the SCREEN Act.
