The Okanogan School District has begun to implement its phased plan which includes gradually increasing the number of students returning to in-person learning, with 20% of each schools students slated to return to in-person instruction by Oct. 5.
According to a 560KPQ News Radio report, a small number of students began returning to school buildings the last week of Sept. which will be followed by a three week period between adding additional groups. Students who have lack of internet access as well as Title 1 and EL students are among the first groups being allowed to return to the classroom.
"While the district understands families desire to return to school right away, opening slowly while monitoring our successes and making necessary adjustments is the most responsible method," the school district stated in a Facebook page announcement, according to the KPQ report.
The school district's plan also includes COVID-19 screening of students, requiring face masks and students attending in-person learning four days a week, according to KPQ. Middle and high school students have half days while K-5 students attend for full days, the report stated.
