The House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology is convening a hearing to discuss strategic spectrum policy. The session, led by Chairman Richard Hudson (NC-09), aims to explore how such a policy can empower innovators and enhance American leadership in the telecommunications sector.

Key industry figures are set to provide their insights during the hearing. Michael Powell, President and CEO of NCTA – The Internet and Television Association, emphasized the importance of wireless technologies in expanding high-speed internet access. He stated, “Wireless technologies are central to bringing high-speed internet to our customers and have allowed us to enter the competitive mobile broadband market. As a relatively new entrant, we have quickly become the Nation’s fourth largest wireless carrier.”

Brad Gillen, Executive Vice President of CTIA, highlighted the potential role of the wireless industry in tackling national challenges. He remarked, “The wireless industry can play a key role in addressing many of the core challenges facing our country today—from helping families with everyday household costs and creating more good paying jobs to competing more effectively against China and connecting all Americans."

Diane Rinaldo, Executive Director of Open RAN Policy Coalition, stressed the need for U.S. leadership in telecommunications. She noted, “To navigate these challenges, the U.S. must reassert its leadership by restoring spectrum auction authority, strengthening collaboration across sectors, and advancing a clear, coordinated national strategy for telecommunications with competition and cybersecurity at its heart.”

Chris Lewis, President & CEO of Public Knowledge, will also be present as an additional witness.

The hearing is scheduled for 10:00 AM and can be viewed live or on Channel 37 via the internal House network.
